Sponge In Aquarium Qestion

This is just a thought and I wondered if anyone has tried it and does it work?

I have been reading lots of threads where keepers say they have seen eggs and fry, I wondered if adding a sponge(the natural type), weighted down so it doesn't float about, would it be a safe heaven for fry to grow up in?

Perhaps if you can deposit any eggs you find in to the sponge so they can hatch and grow in there, or may be a luffa, that also has lots of crevises fry could hatch and grow in?

Interesting thought. Not got any experience of this, but certainly sounds feasible. If you try it, let me konw how you get on please
