I'm looking to cut down my leccy bill & was thinking of using sponge filters in my 3 Betta tanks run off one air pump instead of 3 individual filters.
So my question is, do they do as good a job at filtering as individual internal filters?

This is a great question! I don't know the answer but I know I'll be watching this thread.

I'm hoping any answers I receive are good.
I have used sponge filters in fry tanks before, so just hoping they'll be good in my Betta tanks too, fingers crossed :)

With regards to your bill,
Doubt the filters would make a big diffrence there only 10W a peice so all in all 30W a good enough airpump to power all three
(Three APS50's at 2w each would make 6w (Then you have the noise from the pumps)
Tbh the heating in the tank would be better to look at then the filtration.

Or could it be the fish tanks causing the expence in electric?

At the moment, I have seven tanks, all with separate heaters & filters.
Was just hoping I could somehow cut down on the amount of plugs used & equipment as my leccy bill has gone up significantly.
One air pump could power 3 sponge filters, therefore freeing up at least 2 plugs, hopefully cutting a bit of leccy used.
Another option could be to move the stock from my 60 litre into my 150 litre?

Maby theres a better way to heat the tanks?
Ie a oil filled radiator or insulate the room better?
Its a tough one tbh

I'm exploring doing some homemade moving bed filters. They'll be powered by air pumps so maybe worth a look. Following instructions by pond guru on you tube
