Ok, so Im well aware of sponge filters, and how well they serve for biological and mechanical filtration in small tanks or even in fry tanks BUT I just dont know where to find one. Im not comfortable ordering things online, so does anyone know what stores sell that kind of thing? Also, more in the spirit of the DIY forum, I was also thinking about making one by driving a pvc pipe with lots of holes near the bottom of it through a large foam/sponge, so if i were to do that, where could i find the sponge? Does anyone know a good type of material for such a cause and where it can be located? Thanks a lot! -Colin

Any LFS should stock ones like these:

People buy them for fry tanks. I have one running in each of my tanks, not as a main filter, just as an emergency measure. I take them out for quarantine and hospital tanks, but they are there in my main tanks incase of power cut (I have battery air pumps).
