Splitting A Tank

Keep an eye on them just in case... They may behave differently once Sweeney has settled in.

On a random and funny note; I've been hand-feeding Alpha his blood worms (wet my finger in the tank water, stick a few blood worms on it, and let Alpha take them off of my finger). I attempted this with Chomp the new CT today... He swam in circles around my finger once... twice... three times... four times.. and then ignored the blood worms in favour of chomping on my finger instead.

Sweeney's colouring is gorgeous!. He looks really healthy as far as chain-store pet store bettas go. I'm impressed!.

Oh yes I am definitely keeping a good eye on them. I need to get some bloodworms myself. Right now mine are eating betta pellets and the occasional flake. I am sure it will be healthier and also make my bettas happier if they get a worm here and there. :D

Sweeney is currently resting in the java fern against the divider just watching Mad Hatter swimming around. No flaring or anything yet. He isn't much interested in his own reflection either. Hatter was infatuated with himself from the very first day he saw himself. Maybe a difference in personalities, but I guess I'll make that decision in a day or two after the new guy gets settled.

He settled in and he hates Mad Hatter with a passion. He's bad. Very bad. But the divider is holding and despite flaring on the occasion he hasn't attempted to get through the divider. And I take that back. I just glanced over and he's peering through the divider menacingly. What a brat!

And those are his more accurate colors in the picture. He looks like that until the light shines just right on him and then he looks like the previous photos. No idea what to call his coloring and such.

SWEENEY IS GORGEOUS.! :)

Haha. Alpha attempted to jump the divider yesterday when I had the tank lid off because one of his blood worms he was chasing went through the divider. From now on, feeding time only happens with the lid on. :p.

As long as he can't jump over and the divider is wedged in tight enough, you shouldn't have an issue, but keep in mind that the constant flaring may lead to some stress problems.

I think he will calm down eventually. Mad Hatter is the one who I thought would be stressed. Hatter of course sees Sweeney, but he doesn't care. He's really calm. Sweeney does look stressed. He flares at everything to include me. I'll give him a couple days before I make any adjustments. He wasn't able to acclimate to the tank for a week like Hatter was before being sentenced to stare at another betta for the remainder of his life. He's got such an attitude he is giving the ghost shrimp on his side a run for their money. He comes at them with his gills out and attacks. The good thing is most on his side are the large ones that are WAY too big to swallow.

Mine have not attempted to jump. Even if they do they won't be able to get over the barrier. It goes all the way up to the lid within a couple centimeters of touching it. I didn't want the the edge to rub on the lightbulb.
