is this ok to do? if its not would anyone like to adopt a betta?

Umm... I guess it's okay if it's really necessary, but it depends on how many bettas... are there 3? or 2? If there are 2 I think it would be fine. If there are 3 it's a tiny bit small, but I guess still ok. Any more and it wouldn't be ok.

its 2. i just got a new guy and put him in and was gonna put the divider in but he just looked sooo happy with all that room. my mom may take my other boy and put him in a 1 gal. she loves fish.

2 would be fine in my book, although I know some people think they would require more space than 1.5 gallons each. If you ask me, just keep up with your water changes, and they should be just dandy. Yes, I said dandy.

I see no problem iwth splitting a 3 gallon in half. Thats 1.5 gals. each, alot of eoom

i personaly feel 1g is to small,1.5g is only a wee bit bigger.I would say 2g minimum but i guess 2 in a 3g divided should be ok as long as you do daily water changes :good:

It will be fine, all my bettas are in 1g's w/ water changes 1-2 times a week.
It's so funny how the standards keep changing and that's not a bad thing, but when I first came on this forum
the standard was pegged at 1 gallon minimum, schooling and schoaling fish were in groups of 3, etc.
Now it's 3g for a betta and groups of 6-8 are the recommendations.
In the past couple years it just keeps going up, up, up. Like I said there's nothing wrong w/ doing the best for your fish
but I think a lot of times it scares people away from exploring the hobby. Also the flaming that inevitably comes up when someone doesn't meet "said standards"is enough to scare anyone away from the board so they'll never come back and learn proper fishkeeping.
Sorry venting is done now!

yes thats very true, nobody realy knows the actual size a betyta can be kept in its just personal preference in my opinion.I like to see active bettas and that means more room.I think 1galons are fine but would defonatly do water changes everyday.

I think it's more personal preference based on what you know. A betta can physically live in those quart-bowls... but are they happy?? I read in an article in a leading aquarium magazine that did a special on bettas recently... that autopsies done on bettas kept in small confines had atrophied muscles and larger amounts of fat deposits b/c of lack of exercise. Most bettas live a shorter life in smaller bowls.

On the other hand... bettas that had lots of room to swim... often lived longer and were lean and their muscle tone was excellent... not to mention... they would probably be much happier with room to swim and explore. They just exist in small confines... but have a better life - the larger the tank.

My personal preference is minimum 2.5 gallons for a male betta and 1.5 for a female. I have my females each in a 3 gal and my boys are in 5 gals each. So far, they seem pretty happy.

Dividing a 3 gallon (since I have one)... IMO is a bit small for males... but they will adapt. I would sooner divide a 5 gal so they have at least 2.5 gals each. Maybe your mom can get another 3 gallon and they each have a nice roomy tank and you can sit them side-by-side so they can keep each other company without hurting each other??
