what causes split fins and does it go away by its own accord or is it best treating.

fish nipping or poor water

melifix or myxazin will help stop infection from setting in, and plenty of 20-30% water changes should help over the next few days.

Sometimes it just happens, especially with species like angels and bettas with longer fins. Sonetimes they can just get themselves in a tight spot in the tank and rip a fin. If they are happy, and the water is good, it'll soon grow back together.

all sorted now thx. fins are well on the mend. it was 1 of my 4 angels

if there angels and they try to spawn be prepared for shredded fins at least
id get some meds incase it happens again

often forgotten fact this. i feel we, too often treat for a problem, where none exists.
