Just been reading that this is a good fish food. I've tried to find out what it is and all I can find is it's a kind of algae that grows in warm fresh water bodies.

Has anyone heard of this?

Has anyone fed this to their fish?

If it's any good where in the UK can you buy it?

its typically sold as "algae wafers" and occassionally in a flake form. really any pet shop should carry it.

going by your signature, you should find spirulina VERY popular with your fish ;)

Spirulina is great food. I have had certain species of fish that I fed spirulina and veggies only ( Tropheus ). A side effect to feeding your fish spirulina is that it promotes the blue coloration in your fish.

Spirulina is a wonderful food that removes diseases from fishes, promotes colouration (so much so that spirulina fed fishes are disqualified from some fish shows!), and is basically all the fishes need. Its disease curing power is so great that it can actually remove the need for a quarintine tank when a fish in a reef tank gets sick. I feed spirulina enriched fodder to my marine fishes everyday, and it has worked on every disease the fish caught, and nowadays completely prevents it, even when a new fish is brought in with ich.

Spirulina is definetly worth feeding, and is common in petstores.

I get spirulina to feed my brine shrimp that I raise for my fish. The spirulina-fed brine shrimp then pass the nutrients from the spirulina to my fish. If you have ever gotten sea monkeys that green sea monkey food is spirulina powder believe it or not  I get mine from brineshrimpdirect.com it comes in powder form, for fairly cheap compared to places like GNC where it is used as a health suppliment for humans.

Here is the link if you want to check it out for yourself:
