Sounds like a recipe for huge nitrate problems and eventual pH crash, i wouldnt let one of those things near one of my tanks!!!
I agree, And i dont really agree with adding chemicals that aren't 100% necessary.
What is the benefit of such a yoke anyway?
Is it the esthetics of it? Ah well if your happy with it go for it.

I've seen them @ Fishkeeping & Water Gardening weekend held in Bracklesham Bay down South last year when i attended... from what i could remember they are quite bright in colours, the one they had on the stall was lime green and bright blue... certainly not natural looking

But yours looks great!!!

Keep us posted

We saw these for the first time last week in a local fish store.

We were quite taken with them, the fish store had set one up and it had been running a while and the colours had mellowed.
They'd cut small holes in it and planted live plants in the holes.

It really looked great, just like an algae covered rock formation and we were certainly tempted, but the price at the time (before payday) stopped us from impulse buying.

The whole idea of it acting like a giant filter sponge housing beneficial bacteria seems sound, but I wonder how well it works in practice and how quickly it builds up sludge and starts producing anaerobic harmful bacteria in the nooks & crannies.

Time will tell, Good luck Danio_2004! (he he. old name)

I love the way that looks I guess you could always run your own filter along side it, if needs be. Thanks for that Wolf, woiuld like to hear how you get on with it. I would hate to think how much one of those would cost for our tank....... would look cool though.

well just over a week and all is well
water params are spot on and no losses

I've added two(more soon) Botia sidthimunki (dwarf loaches) they seem to love it
as they are always poking in the nooks and crannies looking for food.

ok just to wrap this up

I've sold it, tank, hood and the spectacular aquariums background/substrate.

where do I begin? Ah I know ALGAE!
green, slimy, hair, red, black, you name it this tank succumbed to it
I tried everything, even the algae chemical I swear by didn't touch it :/
water quality, ok at first but deteriorated over the last few months, nitrates were always high and phosphates were inmesurable. No amount of water conditioners, or water changes had any effect on this doomed project.

I have transfered the fish to my 13 gall by doing a bit of swapping around, adding some fish to one tank and others to other tanks.

MY advise
don't waste your money buying one of these things, spend the same amount and get a half decent internal filter.
