Special Betta Death...

Hi guys i just got home from the lfs with a new dojo loach. When i put the bag in the tank i noticed my male betta wasnt in the tank. I looked every where and finally found him dried up in my net. He probably jumped out of the smallest hole in the lid or maybe he snuck into the net when i threw out a dead fish yesturday. I am really pissed because now i cant get another betta. This male betta wouldnt attack anything in my community tank it was in, he wouldnt even attack any of the really long-finned fish such as my long finned skirt tetras and lyretail swordtail and he wouldnt attack any fish that looked like a female betta such as my golden killifish. I cant get another one because i dont think i can just buy a male betta and it magically wont attack any fish. That male betta was one of a kind, the most gentle betta... My tank seems so boring now without a betta...

I hate it when my fish die for a stupid reason! Sorry to hear about your boy.

I've always had good luck with male bettas in community tanks. You could try another betta in there if you would be able and willing to set up a small tank or bowl for the betta if he didn't get along.

You shouldn't get discouraged though. If you have some money.. you could try another betta in the community tank, but if it doesn't work, have another tank onhand for the betta to go into.

Or you could try a female betta. Some do have bad temperments but seem to be more passive overall than males. Most places sell them really young so as she grows hopefully she'll be used to being in a community tank so won't be aggressive.
