She has been rotund for ages but she just went nuts when I lowered the tank temp to 69 f and added the driftwood with the moss.

I am sorry to say that the reason I lost the pandas is probably because of the temp change. I have raised it about 4 degrees. Hopefully everyone will be happy with that. If not I will need to move the pandas.

I moved the driftwood today. I found a very small snail snacking on my eggs.

But I lost 2 more pandas last night in order to get it. I have raised the temp now so I hope the losses will turn around. The pandas will need their own tank so I can continue to breed the others.

On a nicer note, Chas. is now going to send me two sets of his back up breeders: 5 C. gossei and a C. Seussi and 6 C. simulatus. Pretty exciting! Where oh where to put another tank?

The bad news: the gran dam San Juan lady died in The Great Panda Plague.

But not before she gave me that great spawn!

I can see oodles of little dark fry in the net right next to the net with oodles of little clear fry from the albinos.

I am not llke some, counting my eggs--and counting fry Forgedaboudit! I had some trouble with fungus. I didn't get the water currents right with the scond the driftwood/Javamoss in the way, but still it was a big spawn for me, and there are still eggs hatching I think. No pics yet, but I am excited and working on how I will set up grow out tanks.

I am hoping the new breeders will come the last week of March. I am taking some time off.

(It looks like the plague has run it's course. It was a bad one. I only have one arcuatus left, and all four of the species in that tank took hits and had bad losses. But I think it is over. So onwards and upward with a little tail wiggle.)

I put the java moss covered drift wood back in with the San Juans today. Now I know why some of them weren't chasing during the spawn: There is at least one other female. She went over right away and started sniffing around the moss like a dog sniffs a fire hydrant. I came back an hour later and she and a fellow were chasing around the tank full speed. When I went back that night there were eggs all over the moss, the heater, and the filter intake. I will harvest some tomorrow.

They like that moss! After she sniffed around it a little she froze a bit for a moment. That moss was with the albino peppers for a awhile. They spawn incessanty. I wonder if the moss picks up some hormone smell.
