I've completed a fishless cycle in my 8 gallon and plan to get some fish a week tomorrow. I'm planning to get pygmy cories (which will come later) and either sparkling gouramis or endlers (or possibly both depending on the responses to this post).

Question 1. What is the best number of sparkling gouramis to keep? And can you just keep one? or two? or is three a safer bet?

Question 2. What do they eat? What's the best to feed them?

Question 3. Do they need a mature tank or will they be OK in a freshly cycled tank?

And, is there anything else I need to know about sparkling gouramis before I buy them? Any agression issues I should be aware of? Any special needs? (the tank is planted including floating plants which I assume they'll like). I'm aware they can be confused with croaking gouramis and will make sure I know what I am getting.

Thank you

I have a group of 8 sparkling gourami in a 60L set up with 3 honeys. INFO
The tank is well planted and some floating plants on top as you say. They readily eat Nutrafin crushed flake food, live bloodworms and the occasional treat of live daphnia. I also have read they are partial to small snails too.
Mine went into a mature tank, so I can't really answer #3.

They are stunning little fish I have to admit and even the sparklers croak. The first time I heard it I thought something was wrong with my airpump!
