last week, i notice one of my sword tails is missing a chunk of scales.
the next day, the missing chunk was growing white stuff.
at the time, i didn't do much as it was still swimming around normally and is still "fighting" for food.

last wednesday, it hid behind some plants for the whole day and did not come up for food.
last thursday, put it into a hospital tank (filled with half tank water, half new tap water. filter using one piece of media from the normal tank's filter. also running an air pump), added in medication for fungus.
the next day, fungus is all gone. only the raw wound is left.

the problem is that it has not eaten much (if any) food since wendesday. it would "suck" the food into its mouth, and "spit" it back out.
it is also breathing really fast.
every since moving it into the hospital tank, it only stayed on the bottom of the tank, hiding.
today is the first day i notice it swimming closer to the top of the tank. the wound seems like it is mostly healed
today, it was also dangling a long piece of thick transparent fece from the anus. not stringy at all. it is more like a rope than a string.

the water stat in the hospital tank is 0 ammonia, 0 NO2, barely any NO3, and ph 7

what can be the problem?

Missing scales can be parasties, bacterial, bad water quality, fighting, knocked them off on ornaments.
Check the anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Does the fish look thin or bloated.
Clear mucas poo can be a sign of internal parasites.

forgot to mention
2 weeks ago, a swordtail died. it was resting at some weird positions, and every once a while would "dart" around before resting again.

this morning, i put a piece of medication for parasite (Jungle Parasite Clear Tank Buddies) into the hospital tank.
when i got home, this swordtail was resting upside down on the plants. still breathing fast
after i put my head close to the tank, it struggled to flip the right side up.
there were several white stringy poo in the tank. one stuck on the power cord to the heater, one on the branch of a plant, and one on gravel.
the few blood worms i fed this morning were gone, so i assumed it ate them.

now, it is resting at a 30 degree angle on the gravel against the side glass panel. (still right side up)
it is still breathing really hard, and (seems like) in bigger grups.

the poo:

(the images are too big, so i left them as links instead)

just checked on it again.
it is gone. RIP.

this sword tail was special to me, because it was the first fish that was born (and survived) in my tank.

Bless him.
R.I.P.
What does the jungle parasited clear treat, is it both external and internal parasites.
Fish can dart and turn upside down when there dying.
Need to know why he lost his scales.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.

the box says
"Clears external and internal parasites. No need to raise the
water temperature. Also helps prevent secondary infections
and will not harm biological filtration. The fizz lets you
know it's working!"

i didn't notice it flicking or rubbing against anything before
even in the hospital tank, it didn't flick ot rub
the one (or two) day before i move it to the hospital tank, it would hide in the corner of the tank staying as hidden as it can.

i was under the assumption that it rubbed against some sharper decloration in the main tank
i have a huge piece of coral as decloration, and it isn't really that smooth.

How are the other fish.

i don't anything wrong with them at the moment
but one of the older female swordtail seem to have a small white spot on its tail.

Is the spot size of a grain of salt or bigger.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Any redness to the spot.

that spot looks like ick
there are two salt grain sized spots side by side on the tail.
no sign of flicking or rubbing.
no redness either, it is pure white.

on a side note, while changing the water in the main tank, i thought a saw a tiny worm trying to escape from the Python thing.
upon closer inspection, it was a swordtail fry. it is barely 2mm long.

Its sounds like whitespot but would of expected to see the fish flicking and rubbing.
How is the fish now.

it still have the two spots on the tail, but there is still no rubbing or flicking.
during the day, it doesn't do anything strange.
during the night, after the lights are off, it would stay in the corner behind the pipe that goes to the filter.

i think it recently gave birth. its bottom side isn't huge as before, and there is no black spot. (and also that fry i found)

on the othe hand, there is a different swordtail (male, smallest and weakest in tank) that seem to have a little fin rot. that or it got bitten by the almost constant bullying from the other swordtails.
there is only a tiny section that's missing a little fin.

I would rehome the sword tail if there picking on him.
I would treat for whitespot if more spots show up

status update:

last week, i moved both female swordtails into the hospital tank.
the hospital tank is a 10gal tank, filter used a piece of the media from the main tank, water is half main tank half new water.
(on a side note, while changing the water from the main tank, i opened up the filter, and found a swordtail fry in the lower basket, still alive, so i also put it into the hospital tank)
that female swordtail with two whitespots, the spots are gone.
