Just wondered if anyone knew of any fish shops that stock half beaks in the east midlands? I am willing to travel to get them. Can't seem to find any in the shops around me.

Thanks.

Try using the Tropical Fish Finder stock searching tool. A quick look for Celebes halfbeaks for example turned up these stores:

Maidenhead Aquatics at Bracknell
Hobby Fish, Milton Keynes, MK19 6BD,
Maidenhead Aquatics at Woking, Surrey, GU22 0NH,
Woodford Aquatics, London, E18 1EJ,
Maidenhead Aquatics at Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX33 1YJ,
Maidenhead Aquatics at St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL2 IDL,
Maidenhead Aquatics at Cambridge, Cambridge, CB23 7PJ,
Maidenhead Aquatics at Wembley, London, NW9 8RY,
Maidenhead Aquatics at Truro, Cornwall

Looking for wrestling halfbeaks, I came up with Maidenhead Aquatics @ Bridgend. Trying different species may well turn up further results, and of course these are only the stores using that service -- there may well be other stores with halfbeaks in stock that haven't signed up to use the TFF thing.

Cheers, Neale

I find that Tropical Fish Finder is not that accurate.

For example, I was at MA @ St Albans this weekend and there were no Halfbeaks.

I guess the system is reliant on the shops keeping their lists up-to-date.

There have been other fish that I have been after, gave the shops a call first and the fish weren't in stock anymore.

Yes, it does depend on the stores updating their lists. Some do so very regularly: Wildwoods, Wholesale Tropicals, Maidenhead Aquatics @ Crowland, to name but three. But others are a bit slow. Once stores know people use the site to locate fish, they will be more diligent about updating their database entries. So it's a bit of a chicken and an egg thing sometimes! Since I work with TFF on producing the fish descriptions the database uses -- I've done over a thousand by now! -- I'm as exasperated by out of date store entries as anyone else.

On the other hand, if you look at the first page to the site, where stores announce new fish they have in stock, these are very up to date. I often write articles about new fish that appear in stores that I've never seen in the trade before. That's rather fun to do!

Cheers, Neale

It's not East Midlands (East Anglia, in fact), but The Water Zoo in Peterborough have some Platinum Halfbeaks which look really nice - they almost convinced me to buy some livebearers instead of cichlids .
