Will loud noises hurt or effect my fish in any way? Once i get fish in my 29 gallon the tank will be settled and set up close to a television, stereo and not to mention the fact that my family is loud{including me at times}. So Will sound effect fish?

Thanks,

Squidman

well if it is constant loud noise then i guess it would stress the fish.. I have my 50 gallon right by the TV and blast the stereo sometimes and the fish dont seem to mind. But it is like a jet engine loud noise then ya that would be bad

I killed 5 of a shoal of 6 red line torpedo barbs by playing loud music in the middle of the night. The rest of the community were fine. TV has never been a problem and they were right next to it.

I've never had a problem with sound and my fish, one of the tanks is right next to one of my surround sound speakers and it doesn't bother them. Although I don't have the volume really loud as my kid is always in bed by the time we watch a film so don't want to wake her up. We do often play music through the surround sound and that doesn't bother them either. I think it would have to be very very loud to upset them, as mentioned if the water is vibrating(rippling) then it's probably just a little too loud

my understanding is this....
it is bass rather than loudness that effect the fish.
perhaps asking in the scientific forum will get one of the scientist types to answer this question more accurately

From my experiences fish get acclimated to louder sounds just like any other animals. Oscar breeder/drummer with the band practicing under the fishroom, breeder living 1/2 block from a major airport, or me ripping into something in the fishroom with power tools, they get used to it.

that's about how i see it. the navy's of the world have done studies on the effect of Sonar, high frequency, and the results, though not definitive, suggest that it has little on no effect, long term. but studies using lower frequency's, pile drivers and airguns, show, not only does it effect the fish, but the damage can be long-term/permanent.

if you can make noises , in the home ,that will do anything but scare the $hit out of your fish is open to question. :hyper: however if you have ever seen a silver dollar that has slammed into the side of the tank, and treated it, you will be aware, sound indefinitely does have some, nasty effects.

The sound of a wall being demolished next door killed two of my stingrays.
