Anyone a plumber or know about sinks!!

Im house sitting for my mum and dad whilst they're on holiday and the kitchen sink just started spewing water out when I did the washing up.

I investigated and I found the issue but can't fix. It seems simple to fix but not having any luck! Can anyone help!

It's the drain pipe that leads from the sink drain to the outside drain. Basically the connectors come loose. Nothing seems broken.

Here's some photo's anyone any experience with this type of mechanism? I've tried so hard to put it in but it won't stick. I tried unscrewing that White thing and then pushing it in and screwing it back but it won't hold?!

Any help will be much appreciated before I get a very expensive plumber!! :)

It doesn't screw in. The white thing your twisting should tighten it if it's one of those. If not it's had some kind of sealent put round the grey pipe and pushed in.

Is it a tight or loose fit when you put the grey pipe in?

Tight(ish) fit but falls out if I let go.

I'll try that White thing like you say! Hold on a sec!

Thank youfor replying!!

Ps there's no evidence of sealant on it?

thats the weirdest plumbing i've ever seen. maybe try wrapping some duct tape around the end of the grey pipe to widen it, and then maybe by tightening the white one it will act as a compression joint. but it doesnt look like standard plumbing to me

Schottay! I think it worked!! You are a life saver! You kinda loosen it to tighten over the grey pipe. Wierd. I think it's fixed! Thanks!!

unscrew the straight connector, put the nut on the grey pipe, push the grey pipe as far in as possible into the white connector, hand tighten and then nip up with some grips,

if that doesn't work, do the same but before putting the grey pipe back in dollop a load of sealant around it then put it in, tighten and leave for 24 hours

Undo the White locknut and slide it over the grey part. Push the grey part into the White bit as far as it will go then tighten the locknut around it. Don't over tighten as you'll strip the thread.

Check the pipe isn't blocked before you re connect it as the waste might be back building and the excess water will find the weekest joint to escape.

Use silicone sealant or if you have some wrap some PTFE tape around the inside as this should provide a TEMPORY fix.

Ok it didnt work. Just trying matt's one to see if it will work. Thanks guys

it should do, i used to be a kitchen and bathroom fitter ;)

just to add, this is an emergency fix, if its not holding its probably to do with the fitting which should ideally be replaced in the near future

Thanks. It's on but somehow I don't think it'll hold - found a black rubber thing inside the White thing and fitted it together. It's holding for now. Dad can sort it out when he gets back.

Dont use the sink then until it sorted!

Is your washing machine plumbed intoning drain before or after that joint? I hope it's after!
