another one of my tanks needs a makeover im afraid, and I need a bit of help with that too! it is a 45gal (methinks - pretty sure!) and i know it sounds bad but im not sure what sort of filtration or heating etc is in it because it all came together. all the fish in it are perfectly healthy and happy, it has lots of plants, bogwood, and has gravel. it is what i like to call the community tank, but looking at it earlier, i decided it needs a bit of a boost. this is going to sound really bad as well, but because i've had this tank since last Christmas, the fish have recently started to die from old age. im certain that it is old age as well, so no worries there. i had most of these fish from a smaller tank so don't worry they're not a year old like the tank lol! this tank only has in it now..
* 3 gouramis
* some corys
* 2 clown loaches
* about 3 guppies
* 3 or 4 odd tetras that are left (bleeding heart tetras, scissor-tail tetras etc)
* and some good old cats that keep the tank looking lovely and clean and algae-free!

I don't want to remove the remaining fish or anything but am now thinking that this tank needs something new! im not looking for another cichlid tank, as my others have caused me enough trouble as it is lol but what new fishes should i put in here?

xx

p.s - so sorry for all the posting tonight! :blush:

oh and somehow i forgot to mention that i also have three angels in there! one has been tiny since i got her.. she just hasn't seemed to have grown! and the other two are lovely too but just want to point out that we havn't had any problems with them and any of the other fish! but i have to work around them!

xx

hey hunni! sorry to say this but fish dont die from old age after a year :( how many fish have died?

a great idea would be to get sand. i changed my gravel to sand and i would never go back. it makes the tank look so much brighter n healthier :)
about 3 guppies? lol count carefully

what corys do you have? and how many? if i were you, id try adding to the shoals i have before adding anymore species. like the tetras. i think its better to have one species than like 2 fish of 3 different species. same with the corys. stick to one species and they'll stick together gorgeously...unless you have species that DO stay together like whiteclouds n neons. loverly :D

also...angels are the best :D :D :D

lol pinkdolphin i didnt explain that very well.. most of the fish that i've had in that tank i have actually had for about three years, some of them a bit longer, but the tank itself i have had for a year and what i mean is they have been living in this tank for a year! the fishees in there are all quite old now.. lol and there are also only 3 guppies atm as there are only males! the last female went about 2 weeks ago i think. i also agree that its better to have a shoal of fish rather than just the odd one or two, and i did have really big shoals! don't worry, i dont buy single fish! i have 4 corys that have lasted for ages and i love those lil guys! also about the sand, my other tanks have sand but i like this one looking different and having gravel.. i find it sooo much easier to clean as well but thats just me! :) n3ont3tra, i have two 3-spot gouramis and one golden! they have such lovely characters!
thanks for your replies!
