Know this is wrong thread but feel as if I know people on here. My plec has just died must have had him at least 5 years he was enormous. Fine yesterday when I fed him..the other 2 fish in tank are OK. Hubby is going to have to move him I cant do big dead fish! -_-

Hi liz2

Sorry to hear about your plec. :rip: It's awful to lose any fish, especially one you've had that long. You must have been quite attached to him.

At least it sounds as though it was very quick and he didn't suffer. It's terrible when you don't know why though isn't it?

I was really upset when we lost one of ours and we'd only had him a few weeks so I know how you must be feeling.

:rip: boy

-_- Thanks. You start to think was there something wrong I didnt notice but he was very secretive anyway. I dont know who is going to clean my tank now..I am not going to replace him..it is a very old tank and hubby says it is an eyesore. His mate the catfish looks puzzled, although the angel fish isnt worried. Nasty bit of work is the angel. :good:

The angel fish is dead now. Cant understand it...I did a bucket change about a week ago, but it had meds in. Just the catfish now, water seems ok, but I have done another bucket of water change. Thought it was old age but not sure. Funny enough lost a fancy fish upstairs and I think I put clean water in that the same day....It makes me mad when I loose fish for no obvious reason. Husband reckons they were well over 6 years but that isnt old. The poor old catfish is peering round the tank the angel used to bully them both :hyper:

Sorry to hear that you've lost two lovely fish :(

What meds did it have in and what for ?
When two fish die in short succession - there is always a very good reason and it's not old age I'm afraid.

Do you have information on tank stats (ammonia / nitrite / ph & nitrate) ?
How big is your tank and what does it have (had) in ?

I always type meds and mean water conditioner and aqua salt. Only had the 3 big ones in ,,a plec thats dead, the angel, and an upside down butterfly. Ran out of water testing kit at the moment...might take a bit of water down the lfs they will do it for me.. The tank is about 4ft long had it for years think it holds 25 gallons

Took some water down lfs and the nitrate is wrong and so is the ph. But what caused it I havent done anything apart from replace some water last week. Anyway to cut a long story short I have wrestled the catfish out of the tank and he is now upstairs in another tank that was recycling for my son. He isnt in at the moment so he will get a surprise. Now got one large empty tank full of bad water, snails and nothing else
It will be going to the tip in a couple of days methinks!

 the forum has been down since last night hant it? couldnt get on anyway.

Yes it was the ph and nitrates. Dont know why. Anyway the big tank has now gone to the tip and the catfish is lording it upstairs in a different tank. He doesnt look too bad, feel awful about my other 2 old fish but never realised anything was wrong with the water. Going to stick to bettas!
