I have a cycled tank and bought some guppies.

2 males and 4 females to be exact. They went into the tank on Saturday noticing that all 4 females had gravid spots.
By Sunday night we had 4 baby wrigglers - they were born in front of our eyes...although we couldnt work out who was having them!! :D

One of the females was very pregnant when we got her and now looks like she is going to pop.
But today (Monday) she has started acting a bit weird.

She zips about the tank like a loon.
She nips at the rear of all the other females.
Nips at the males and continues zipping about.

I thought she may be clearing a corner of the tank to have her babies in peace but not so sure anymore!

Is this normal?

It is normal, but if she is that frantic, can you give her a tank to herself? How large is the tank? Maybe you can divide it?

Unfortunately not :(
Its a 12 gallon - plenty of space for 6 fish its not her being pestered, SHE is on a mission to pester everyone else!

I have been sat here now for just over 4 hours watching her....waiting for babies

hahaha how sad am I?!

This might be one of the instances, where I would recommend the breeding net to separate the mother, as she seems to be going wild as it is currently.

i dont ask this question to challenge you just asking out of curiosity but if she is behaving this way she is probably stressing herself out. would putting her in a breeding net stress her more or maybe calm her? once again just a curiosity question as i have one female in particular who does this every time. i usually leave her be as im scared that taking her out would stress her more

I suggested it, only because she seems to want some separation from the other fish. If she starts flipping out in the net, then she comes out, but having some separation may calm her down. It's not an absolute answer by any means.
