Sometimes We Feel Bad When A Guppy Dies

Thats what happens when you pay peanuts.

Would have thought a large aquarium would have had some sort of electronic monitoring...

From that report :
"Much like chlorine, ozone is an energized form of oxygen"

That must be news to chemists, or perhaps there is a nobel prize buried herein ? Bring back phlogiston !
Lavoisier, Scheele & Priestly could be turning in their graves at this moment.

 I did a double take on that one too, and I'm a musician by trade. Perhaps the reporter hails from a different planet than the rest of us? Certainly not Earth.  :alien:

And this whole time my chemistry professor has been trying to pass chlorine off as its own element!! Pffft

synirr ur thinkin of chloride. it combines with certin amounts of oxygen and some other stuff to form chlorine. btw ozone is just oxygen.......its chemicle name would be O3 where as the oxygen u breathe is O2......boy i remember too much from my HS chemistry class( that aced! lol)

ozone is o3, just add another oxygen atom to o2 and you get o3

Edit: dangit, you beat me to it. i thought chloride was chlorine combined with some other element, like sodium, which makes sodium chloride NaCl.

I think what the reporter meant was that ozone is often used in the same way as chlorine, s/he just didnt put across in the right way. Here in London our tapwater is treated with ozone to lower the ammount of chlorine that has to be used.

Nope! Synirr &prof is right, chlorine is an element
it will combine (violently sometimes) with other elements to form chlorides.( you will met these chlorides as ions in water solutions eg. salt solutions (sodium chloride) in your brackish tanks (and boiled potatoes !) )

Oxygen is di-valent, it has two arms, it can find one divalent partner and form a stable bond. viz. O2
It can also find two partners each of them with two arms, thus a three-some can be formed, viz O3, this tends to be unstable when two O3s meet,to then form three O2s !!

...Is that so? :sly:

ok so i made a mistake :*) i took the class almost a year ago and forgot some stuff. :*)
