Something seems to be wrong with my male guppy. I've noticed that he hasn't been his usual self, and instead is hiding and just floating near the surface. I looked at his tail, and on the end you can see some red. Over the past couple days, it's spread a little and I have no idea what it is. Is his tail fin bleeding? Could it be that another fish is nipping his fin?

Could be some sort of infection after being nipped, maybe a parasite..

Someone like Wilder would be able to tell you more, incase they see this thread, i have zoomed in on the problem with the fin for them to see easier..

I had something similar to this affect a platy, but the edges of the tear were white, not red. I cured it in about a week by dipping in seawater for half an hour four times a day. I don't know if it would work in this case because it's hard to know exactly what it is.
*waves*
Wilder, over here!

White edges are more usual with fin rot aren't they? Not seen this before.
I'd get him into QT straight away, the others will pick on him now that he is weak.
Maybe start treating with melafix & pimafix until someone can give you a firm ID, these are fairly gentle meds. I think 5teady's right though, it looks like something took a bite out of him and the red is a secondary problem.
*waving too* WILDER!!!!!????!!!!!

He is currently sharing a 5.5 gallon with heater set at 80 degrees F with 1 guppy/endler mix and 1 sparkling gourami. I will quarantine him and start treating him with medication today.

If he has been with other fish, you will have to treat the tanks he has been in to make sure its fully got rid of..

it looks as though the Ph of the water could be wrong, i had that not so long ago and it literally "burns" the fins away, another problem may be finrot, go to your local pet supplier and buy a Ph/Nitrate testing kit, when you have the problem, you can get the remedies from the shop aswell.

hope he gets better soon

:good:
