How ling have you had the fish?

It is possible that he feels less comfortable with the other of his kind gone.

Usually when people have really skittish fish, they will add other fish that are less skittish; these less skittish fish will draw the other fish out of hiding.

Thanks

Ive probibly had him for about 3-4 months.

Before i got him there was a pike cichlid in the tank with them and they were getting beat on alot.

Would that have anything to do with it?

Possibly.

Usually I would say give it some time for the fish, as they will usually start to come out, but that does not seem the case in your situation.

How long ago has the one fish died?

Is it possible to get another of his kind?

Other than that I am really unsure?

Okay, will you put the Julidochromis in the same tank as the festivum?

If so, that may be the golden ticket!

"Golden ticket?" lol It is just a saying; a figure of speech. Meaning that the new fish you are going to buy may be the key in having your other fish come out of hiding.

Should be good. Is this the same tank the festivums is in?

not yet. in a couple day just finishing the cycle.
the festivum is in a 10g with my pair of kribs and a baby green severum (which im getting rid of)

Festivums can be quite timid but should come round in time. Mine is at the front of the tank as soon as you go in the room and is quite assertive with the other cichlids in the tank (2 x Keyhole, 1 x curviceps) as well as a school of 7 denisoni barbs which are VERY active fish. Even the keyholes are out and about all the time. I do reccomend a group of dither fish to make timid fish seem more secure in the tank. What stocking do you have in their also? Also your tank may be a little small for a festivum long term minimum reccomended size is 50gal.
