Woke up this morning and checked my tank water and noticed 4 dead rasborra  3 of them had no eyes and 1 had 1 eye could my betta be attacking them ? Hes lived with them for over 10 days now but recently we adding some cory could the additional fish have stressed him to the point hes attacking the rasborra ?

His other tank mates are Khuli Loaches Cory and Diamond Tetras. (As well as the rasborra obviously) I've sat and watched him for hours and not once have I seen him nip or even chase another fish in the tank.

My other thought was something else water related killed them and the eyes were merely snacked on post death ?

Tank size: 240 L
pH: 7.4
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 40 (Todays water change knocked this down to 20)
kH: -
gH: - Soft water (Scotland)
tank temp: 25 deg

240 Litres

He also has many things to hide in including a large resin u-boat although when hes chilling he likes to sit on top of the internal filter (I also have a 305 external) but the internal is angled in such a way as to dissipate a lot of its flow so the flow in the tank isnt to much for him.

Just found a dead Khuli Loach

My water stats are fine they have been fed regularly but not overfed I'm really scared I'm slowly losing everything right now

I also cleaned out both the internal and external filters removed any gunk and gave sponges quick squeeze in tank water (removed of course) With the external i emptied all the brownish water at the bottom of the filter and removed any gunk where appropiate.

Any ideas ? Thats 6 gone in total over 4 days (none died for approx 30 hours then another 1 died at some point this evening everything else in the tank is fine and water is still 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 20 nitrate

bump as I got buried in a Wilder posting avalanche

Im running out of ideas every fish in the tank is fine aside from the rasborras dieing seemingly at random overnight.

What test kit are you using.
How long have you had the tetra's.

Loaches will suck there eyes out when dead.

Fishy, do you know how long the LFS had those rasboras before you bought them? If it was less than two weeks, you are effectively quarantining them in your home tank and some of the group could simply be dying from the whole stress of moving tanks and possibly diiferent water meakeup in a short space of time.

Sorry for your losses, hopefully you will not lose heart in the hobby.

Just realised I didn't update this topic with the outcome.

Of the 25 Rasborra from that breeder 24/25 ended up dying within 10 days the sole survivor and 11 others purchased from my now regular LFS are living happily and growing with beautiful colours. I've also had no other deaths in my stock in any species or signs of illness.

I can only assume a bad/diseased batch esp as the Rasborra I added within days of getting down to 1 rasborra have suffered no issues. A lesson learned perhaps that cheap isn't always cheap esp if they dont survive.

Thanks for the update.
Good Luck.

Bless them.
