Keep in mind, these were taken in a 1/2 gallon tank w/9w of lighting. It was a tank I made for a friend for his birthday, no fish (the last pic is in my reg. tank), just live rock, minor corals, and a buch of inverts (lack of space for a heater).

That is so cool, I would love to set up a saltwater tank that small, how do you keep the levels steady? or does it not matter as much for inverts?

hey ben

it's sold ready to go, a 1/2g tank w/a hob filter. You can have live rock w/some basic corals, like button polyps and some mushrooms, and some inverts, like crabs and shrimp. you can have small fish in the summer, but it's impossible to heat it so long term it does not work. It has to be light bioload, so that the water does not go bad quickly. And then just do weekly water changes. Should be easy enough.

The trick, also, is to use Live Sand and Live Rock from a very established tank, because this tank will go under quickly if it spikes. So it has to be fully cycled right away.

here is what I have, but yellow:

very cool, the filter is almost as big as the tank

is it really worth it to have a 1/2 gallon? why not just get a 5 gallon?

it's not about worthiness. It's a cool desktop tank. it's a solid piece of glass (like a glass), and it's really sharp looking. Like SW beta bowl. The filtration and lighting on it are AMAZING for that size. Lighting is 18w per gallon (9w lamp) so you can have any small coral frags in there. Great piece on a desk or a kitchen counter.

it actually was fun doing that tank. I already gave it away, now I totally miss it, I will have to buy another one (cheap at $25 or so including lighting and filter) and do another crab only tank :)

WOAH! Easily some of the best SW pics I've ever seen here. Brilliant work there paradise, and great site btw. The pics are all so vibrant, full of life and amazingly clear! :D I really like the first and last ones, outstanding pics! The gravel is so tiny, I really like it! Any chance of seeing a shot of the whole tank?

those pics are real nice, is that what is called a nano tank?
Well Nanos are actually bigger :) this would be called a Pico tank. Nanos are about 5-20 gallons. I have one of those, should have some new pics soon.

That is really kewl, I never did saltwater, but this makes me want to.
Those pics are so clear, nice work.
