Hey everyone! I'm back....

Anyway it is about a year or so old, about 5 inches long and although I DO have pictures, I also have dial up internet.... So i'll keep adding them as this goes. if you have a request of a certain shot or angle to help sex it I'll do my best.

I don't want to net it to vent it because I don't want to cause any un-nessasary stress if you guys can tell from the fins or markings, but i guess we will see.
leave a comment, tell me what you think.

Thanks in advance!

Heres a couple of one of my JDs

Hmm not sure how to post a pic?

when you port, right above the txt box you type in there are picture icons. there is one for pictures. To link to the pics, post them on a picture hosting website like photobucket.com and you can then link them using the picture tool on the forums here :good:

Thanks for the input!

I use photobucket.com, just upload your pictures in there and then copy the "IMG" tag (line of text beneath the picture) and paste it into your reply on the forums. Makes things alot easier! Post those pictures! I want to see your JDs, especially the electric blue... I've never seen any great pictures of them and I've neer seen one in real life either....anyway, GOOD LUCK!

i don't want to hijack your thread but would you mind if i post a pic or 2 of my jd to see if someone can sex it? i have ebjds as well but they're all really small at the moment and the big one died in Jan

Go ahead! The more the better! Besides, I'm excited to see any other pics of other members JDs! I love JDs

So now that we have decided that it is a male, given that it is about 1 year old, and 5 inches long, how big would you expect it to get and how soon will it stop growing?

also, just thinking about the different types of JD, the common and the EB, are there any others and are there any hybrids?

I havent heard of any other types of JD. There are no real hybrids, its EB or normal only.
They can get to a maximum of 8", I think Ox has one that size. Mine got to about 6-7" over a paeriod of 3 years before I rehomed him. They grow continously throughout their lives, but it is more noticalbe in the first few years.

very nice JD. Wahts the minimum tank size for a JD. Waht are compatible with JD's and what would be the minimum tank size with tankmates?

yep, severum boy is right, mine is 8" and quite a heffer (started feeding him only every other day/ three times a week about 4 months ago and it seems his size has regulated out :good: This is about the max size you can expect from a male JD in aquaria (maybe in the wild too, but I haven't looked into that too much) though usually the fish grow slightly larger in the wild.

I don't know of any other variances in the JD's either. Common JD's are very common and should go for around $1.50 to $3 when juve's. EBJD's are much more expensive though as there is quite an involved selevtive breeding program to get a handfull of EBJD's. $25 is the max I would pay for a juve though I have heard much higher prices.... but you shouldn't have to pay over 25 as long you look around.

LosC519: the min size for a JD by itself is a 45G. This gives it just enough room to live for life and enough water volume to dilute the wastes. Recommending a min tank size when with tankmates is virtually impossible unless you know what the tankmates will be because all fish have different full grown sizes and different tolerances for territory and food availability. For an ex. o's need a min 70G IMO so when you put in a JD, I would raise it to a 90 or 100G to make sure things stay calm when they are grown and that there is plenty of territory for both.

Tank size, 80x30x30cm is fine for a male on his own or maby with a couple of other fish.
Any thing specific? Or elce we could be here for days telling you.
With tank mates, 90x30x30cm is better.

Here is a pic from a year ago (obv from the date). Shows his coloration, but he has grown maybe 1 or 2 more inches and bulked up some from the pic. I have tried to get a good pic of him now, but he can be very camera shy.
