Just took some random pics of my yellow labs today, a few turned out pretty good, so I thought I'd share.

Juvie from their first brood - around 4 months old

Only survivng fry from their last brood. The rest became snacks for the other fish, which was ok since I don't have the space for them anyways.

Is that what they're called? I have one of those but it was the wal mart brand they don't get more specific than "african cichlid" Cute fish!

They are commonly called Yellow Labs, Electric Yellow, Lemon Cichlids etc, scientific name is Labidochromis Caeruleus.

Thanks so much I was calling him a lemon drop because I found a picture that looked like him, so I guess I was kinda right, heh. Yea that fry is adorable Mine is about that size too, maybe a little bigger.. looks exactly the same though adorable little guys. Do you know how to tell females from males with those? Do you have to wait until they're bigger?

The only definate way to tell is if they are holding. Although once they are mature, the dominate male is easy to pick out because he will be the biggest, with the darkest markings, and long ventral fins. At least in my experience. Venting sometimes works, but is notoriously inaccurate. Although, you're pretty lucky, because unless your tank is too small, or you end up w/a rouge fish, m/f ratio isn't important w/labs.

Good to know I don't plan on breeding any of my fish anyways, so it doesn't really matter too much unless there will be aggression issues.. in which case I would move the instigator.. but I just like to know so when I'm referring to my fishes I don't just call them all he's
