OK...
1. When looking at the fish for sale on the Trimar webbie, how do you work out what the bits in the 'Tank' column means?
2. I have a 24x15x12 Marina tank with a dodgy bulb. Can you replace the bulb, where can I get one from and how the heck do you put it in?
3. Do you reckon I can have the entire stock of a 18g posted to me under the 'up to 20kg- £10' deal?

ummm...

1. dont know...

2. of course you can replace the bulb.

3. dont stock all at the same time of you will end up with a lot of dead fish.

I'd point 1 and 3 at trimar themselves.

I wasn't planning on putting them all in at the same time. I've already thought of that, but the only thing I can think of is to buy lots of v. cheap 5 gallons, put as many as I can in each and add a few each week. Its going to be a pain, and expensive, but...
a) Its the only way I can get them
B) I get to keep all the 5 gallons. So... Lots of bettas. And some killies, cos I'll probably order some of them. And plenty of cory breeding tanks.

Actually, there won't be a huge amount. I'd say I'd put the gouramis in 1st, then a tank for the cories, one for the tetras, one for the killies and one for the CT betta I'm drooling over.

and then you'll have to cycle each of the 5 gals ??

Its the same as stocking one large tank in one go...

Have a look in the beginners setcion about cycling

I know how to cycle  Granted, I didn't think of that. I'm not nessecarily doing this, its a plan for the hopefully near future to get some interesting and hard to find species. Unfourtunately, I'm not one of those people with hundreds of community tanks I can distribute them around. I have one community tank, and a tidgy one at that. But, cyclings the only option I can see at the moment, and each tank will be filtered. Besides, they will only be in there a maximum of 2 weeks. Not including the permanent residents, but those tanks will be cycled properly.

Fishless cycle and then you can add them all at once as the necessary bacteria will have already colonised. Use pure ammonia and old filter media from your established tank to speed the process up. Add enough ammonia to reach 5ppm the first time and continue adding the same amount daily until you get a nitrIte spike. Then half the amount you are adding until the tank is fully cycled. Obviously keep up with adding ammonia as this is the good bacterias' food. Once you have ordered your fish, do a very large water change to lower nitrAtes (90% may be necessary - you are aiming for under 20 ppm) but continue adding ammonia until you have added the fish.

Aha. Thats the sort of thinking skills I lack.... That will work, unless I can't get any ammonia myself because I'm too young, or mum won't buy me any incase I use it to rob a bank

1) The bits in the tank column are what Trimar tank the fish are located in, I guess so you can look at them if you visit Trimar, and so the employees can locate your chosen fish quickly!

2) You must be able to!

3) Yep, I would have thought so. I got a styrofoam cooler full of fish and a carboard box with 3 sacks of gravel in for £10.

:D

Yea, the lightbulb q must seem a bit odd. But I can't find a way to change it, and haven't seen any in the shop...

I know shipping on live fish is very high but it still seems as though you could order the fish as you want to add them cheaper than you could buy the 5 gallons. I guess with all the tanks you have something more to show for your money though.

Well, I'll only need about 3-4 5 g's anyway. And two will be with permanent residents. The other two can be used as quarentine or hospital tanks, or betta or shrimp or frog. And I can get v. cheap ones for £5 each :dunno:
