I know that bettas can breathe from the surface, thus not needing waterflow, but if you put a powerhead in your tank, would that mean the betta would use its gills more? would this be optimum conditions compared to just still water? Or is it better just to have still water? as I know they found in rice paddies....

I hope I'm making sense here, just was interested to know. :)

bettas like still water, but some water movement wont hurt them. a powerhead is way 2 much. even some filters stress them out.

what is your setup?

I don't have a setup...yet. I was just interested in owning one, I've had one befor ehwen I was younger, I think I named it Sampson, it was blue ;) I remembered it would put bubbles on the surface, is this a bubble nest?

:) Emma :)

well alot of times when bettas exhale they will leave scattered bubbles on the surface, but you will know for sure when a betta blows a bubble nest.

well id go with something simple like a goldfish bowl about 2 gallons. or maybe a small fish tank with ~5 gallons with a small filter.
