I went to Fish Paradise in Fort Worth, Texas on my way home from Plano today (well ok, maybe it's not technically on the way, but still...) Since I so rarely get to visit a shop with stock I haven't seen at my LFS, I took advantage of the situation. My wallet is now empty, but it was worth it

Can anyone ID these for me? They were an impulse buy and I can't seem to find a proper ID Googling...

Prawn, being nice so far. I hope he doesn't pick someone's eyes out while I sleep tonight, they are rather aggressive :look:. I think the fish in this tank are too large for him to mess with though

Eligos, my cow of a senegal bichir, pictured just for kicks :)

The 29 gallon, full tank shot. It needs some pruning. I'll post more once I add the new driftwood to it tomorrow :hey:
Angels are going back to the shop soon as they breed all the freakin' time and cause chaos. I keep procrastinating, but I mean it this time!!

Beautiful fish, don't know much about them though, be careful of the prawn/shrimp as it looks like a fish eater/killer to me.

stunning tank Sam!
that rope fish is just awesome!

He absolutely is, but everything in the tank is bigger than him, so I *think* it'll be ok. If I start seeing torn fins he gets a kritter keeper inside the main tank :p

I have a 27Gal, will this be big enoigh for rope fish?
Not in the long run, as they can reach nearly 3 foot in length. I'm planning to upgrade to a 55 gallon in the none too distant future, which should be suitable, and if not there's always my 80g

Things to come?

Good that you know how big they get, although I really don't think a 55G would suit, it would be much happier in your 80G. I have been tempted with a rope fish quite a few times but never actually taken the plunge. They are a great fish though.

As for your prawn, be careful if it does get big. I have seen many horror stories of people keeping prawns/shrimps in their tank that get big and start feasting on their fish.

And the loaches, well they certainly are different! They could be a colour morph of the Queen Loach, Botia Dario, but other than that I have never seen ones quite like yours. I'm sure a loach expert will be able to better identify them than me...

Ben

Hmm... they're a bit more elongated than Botia dario, judging by the Google pics, but it's a good guess!

All I know about the prawn is that he was cheap, and he gets one chance... should he cause any serious problems, he has a date with Mr. Oscar. :p

Love tghe prawn, i heard, depending on the species, that they like to spear and eat fish.

If only i could get my hands on one of those suckers

I had one of those prawns, firstly it was in our sons community tank after we were told it was community safe but it ate his corys so i moved it to one of my grow out tanks with some medium sized predators but there is ate a catfish twice its own size so i moved it to my largest tank where it was promptly eaten by my arowana ;)

Dont keep it with fish, it will eat them no doubts about it.

Oh and nice fish.

Blimey CFC I had no idea that it would be that severe, looks like that prawn needs seperating right now!

I guess you could feed it on lance fish or some other small fish then?
