Some LFS people are stupid.

Yes. Stupid, and/or uneducated people who are not willing to learn should not be allowed to hold jobs, dispense advice, sell things, buy things, touch things, have kids, have animals, own things, talk to me, look at me, or talk to anyone for that matter. I would not go as far as saying they should not be allowed to live, but they should do so only in clustered communities which are occassionally cleared through controlled burns much like a prarie/savannah.

I don't really feel that way about people.

I do, sometimes :look:

I should mention that I saw a tank at the petstore mentioned above which was 2 ft long max, and a little bit taller than average, and it had 100's of barbs in it, I felt sorry for the poor fish all squashed in like that, it was way overcrowded :(

The person who was telling me the story of the extra large barbs is the actual owner of this store, her sister owns another one nearer to me and she is just as stupid, ages ago when I first saw her sister I bought Mollies off her and they died within 2 days, and that's after acclimatising them properly etc, she had a go at me because I told her she had a dead fish in one of her tanks once and a customer apparently overheard me(so she claimed), she made me feel as small as an ant and was very rude as soon as the customer left and after that I never went back and went to another store where the owners were helpful, polite, and listened to me.

Pity I'm not in the city, more competition for business there.

that's std pratice in LFS'.
you have to bear in mind that generally fish are only in the tank for a week or two at an lfs, and they also (on the whole) have a greater filtration system than you could have at home; unless of course you want to spend thousands and go for a centralised filter system.

I'm glad this topic is not tarring all lfs employees with the same brush.

I wouldn't do that, some of the LFS I have been to have been fantastic and as helpful as can be, generalising isn't very fair on all the good LFS. :)
