I have another lil guy that i have no clue what he is, but its impossible to get a pic of him. Again hes called a cat fish. He is prob 1.5 inch, a yellowy brown color with dark spots, and has barbs on his fins.

Well...it looks like a featherfin catfish or featherfin squeaker (Synodontis eupterus).

Agreed, it will change from been striped to spotted when it matures.

Dont know about eupterus but definately a species of Synodontis! Will get pretty big, hope you are prepared!!

Even small, it wall almost certainly eat small fish so be aware of that, neon tetras etc = dinner!

I go by the rule of "if a catfish has whiskers... its because it hunts and therefore is predatory!" (doesnt count barbels on catfish like cories of course!).

Beautiful fish!

I just noticed you have the same piece of red lava decoration I have ...

The numerous thin black/white strips on the tail fin should be a good clue as to which Synodontis species this is, but I'm unable to get my brain in gear at the moment and there are one or two species to look through...

I suggest you join the planetcatfish forum and provide some good quality photos, including one with the dorsal fin extended, the professional ichthyologists there ought to be able to give you a definite ID. Identification of synos is getting harder, because sadly hybrids are being created, which involves the killing of the parents. This is no doubt partly down to very few synos having bred in the hobby and when they have, the triggers are rarely reproduceable by other keepers.
