A couple months ago I posted a huge rant about my lfs here and the terrible conditions they kept their fish in. I stopped going there but would pop in every now and again just to see how things were. I stopped in there the other day and saw some new people in there and come to find out they bought the place and are re-doing it all. I told them how I had stopped coming there for my fish stuff because of the terrible conditions and they said yeah we know we couldn't believe how dirty the tanks were when we got here and the bad conditions of the fish.

I stopped in there a couple days ago to check on what they had done and I was so happy seeing two employees really scrubbing clean some aquariums. I remember complaining in my other post how the previous owners just had fish scattered everywhere. I am happy to say the new owners have re-arranged all the fish and have moved all cichlids, tetras, livebearers etc into their own sections. Before the other owner would get new fish in and just plop them into tanks that looked more empty than others! :S

The new owners have gotton in a lot more products too and everything is stocked nicely. They look like they are getting the live plants section looking nice too. I really hope they do good. It'll be nice to be able to just pop in there for things I need instead of having to travel 45 mins to another shop like I have been doing for the past 6 months.

Anyways..just wanted to share a good story..I know it's not often for things to actually turn out good

thats great, some LFS simply decide to close down or stay the same way... at least they changed for good !!!

You don't even want to know about the state of the two fish stores in my country. Lol if you lived where i lived you wouldn't complain. They don't sell water testing kits and don't know anything about the nitrogen cylce. I asked them if they get any small catfish, like corydoras, they said they get small ones that get big if you feed them alot.

As a newbie fishkeeper i had to learn things the hard way. Which, no thanks to my fish store is why i ended up with goldfish in my tropical tank.

Thats great Elisabeth! glad to here the good news! The store here in town (which I am hoping will stay open) kind of does the same thing you have discribed. There is only one lady that takes care of the fish section... but I dont think she is really sure what she is doing or what she is talking about... But she has been working there a long time.. maybe she just hasn't learned. But she keeps all different kinds of fish together and when I ask her questions she seems like shes not really sure what to say. And also I see fish in tanks that have ich and some that just have dead fish laying at the bottom. I sometimes point out the fish that have ich and she'll deny it... Maybe she can't see it... She is getting kind of old (probably mid 60's to low 70's). So I was hopeing that maybe when she retires I could take over for her and get some things straightened up. :) There aren't many tanks so it wouldn't be that hard to take car of. I think there are 6 15 gallons and 2 55 gallons that she has. Atleast she is smart enough to keep the golds in the 55 gallons.

I feel so mean now....

Yeah I am really glad that there are new owners there now..I just hope they turn out to be good and take care of the fish properly. What I don't understand is why there arn't more strict rules about keeping animals. I think if your going to open a pet store you have to prove you and your staff have the knowledge to do so.

Oh well...at least for now the rules arn't so strict but maybe one day things will change! We can only hope
