Hi all! :)

So i have made a few posts on the forum lately as i am getting a new tank soon to replace one we have had for years. The tank will be a 64L interpet Fish Pod and I have two 4 year old ADF's that are going to live in it. I have wanted a Betta for years and figured with getting a new tank that rather then set up a community tank again i will finally have a Betta! I may also get a few more frogs to live in the tank, but they will be the only occupants.

Anyway i have been reading alot about Betta fish these last few weeks, and have also been looking through all the threads in this section and i had a few questions.

The first question is which is the best food brand? I know they should be given flakes/pellets daily, bloodworm and other frozen food as treats and can also have a cooked deshelled pea once a week to help with constipation, but my question is with regards to the pellets. I have seen the Betta Pro pellets mentioned alot, but what others are recommended? And also is it better to feed a mix of flakes and pellets, or can they have just pellets?

I have a plan of how i am going to set the tank up-with a piece of terrace rock in one corner filled with gravel, and then sand on the rest of the tank floor. I also intend to get a few hidey holes and will most likely be getting Water Wisteria and Moss balls. I also wanted to add some silk plants and wondered if it is ok to put red silk plants in a tank with a Betta or will that upset him? is it better to stick with green plants? Also are there any other types of plants i could take a look at getting that require low maintenance?

Another thing i have been reading about is the ZooMed floating logs-do many people have these for their Bettas? they sound like a brilliant idea, but just wondered if they actually are that good. I did read a review saying that they wear quite quickly and can start to snag their fins so to check it regularly-is it worth the risk?

Im sure i am going to have lots more questions over the next couple of weeks so i hope a dont become a pain! I am super excited about finally entering the world of Bettas :D

Hi :)

The planned tank sounds prefect for a betta :good:

My lot get a mixture of flakes and various pellets most of them eat what ever i throw in, but 1 male (Tiny) only eats betta pro  as his stable diet (still gets bloodworm & pea weekly)

Java Ferns and Amazon Swords are good low maintainence plants, and bettas love resting on them (sure the frogs would too) Cabomba is another :good:
Any plants that are silk should be fine, i have had a rainbow coloured plant with mine before they weren't bothered 1 bit.

just remember to post lots of piccys of your new addition when your up and running :D

I've got a Zoo Med floating log in one of my boys tanks and he absolutely loves it! He spends most of his time in there!

I feed a mix of Tetra Betta flakes, Betta Pro and Hikari gold. Mine aren't fussy,- they will eat all of these quite happily. They get frozen foods too.

Plants in my tank are Java Fern and Amazon Frogbit (floating plant). All my bettas love hiding out in both of these :good:

Will look forward to seeing pics of your tank once it's all set up! :)

Thankyou both for the replies! I have had a look on ebay at the plants you both recommended and i really love the cabomba, you can get it in both red and green so i think i will add that to the list of plants to get :good:

Thanks also for the food mentions, i think i shall probably give the Betta Pro a go first, and perhaps also the flake food to vary it for him.

Glad to hear the floating log is a hit because it looks brilliant. Dont suppose you have any photos or videos of it in use? :)

Im so excited about setting a new tank up and finally getting a Betta-i even have a name picked out for him  So no doubt you will all be getting flooded with photos! Not sure when we will be getting the tank yet and then we need to cycle it(though will have mature media to go in it so shouldnt take long) but as soon as its all set up and ready to go you will all know it!

Im sure i have some more questions to ask and they will probably pop into my head when im falling asleep tonight  but i will post back on this thread when i do :good:
