hi i just did my first test on my nano marine tank
and the results are
ammonia 0
nitrite 0.5
nitrate 500
salinity 1.025

is this a normal reading for a new tank ??? i have not done a water change yet has been set up for a week now and all the LR, sand, water came from a mature tank the tank is 20 liters?

Moving it has caused a mini-cycle.

Have you got any stock in it?

If yes do a water change ASAP. If not wait for the Ites to hit 0 & then do a water change.

thanks for the reply i have 2 turbo snails and a small hermit crab

Ok - well I would suggest a water change then. Do it tonight if you can & then test it again in the morning - if you are still showing Ites then do another.

HTH

will do thanks the tank is 20 liters so should 20% change at 4 liters and what is the best way 2 do it mate this is my first time lol iv been dreading doing it lol

and should i keep the salinity at 1.025 ?

Mix up the volume of water you intend to change in a clean bucket at the same salinity that the tank is at. Preferably do it ahead of time so that you can pop a powerhead in the bucket to mix/aerate it & a heater to bring it up to temp.

Then simply drain the same volume that you have mixed up from the tank & replace it with the fresh.
