[Solved] Hrp/blue Convict Rubbing Left Side Only On Sand

Also i think your 'female' is a male.
Has a lump on his head and it's a bit too big to be a female.

Really, you think so, I'm gonna kill that so called expert at the LFS...or atleast make sure I get a replacement which is the right sex...2 males in the same tank is not what I was after...

Here's a pic of the definite male (from over one month back, he is a lot bigger now, ~4" now) in the main tank:

And here's a better pic of the "female" in the other tank (< 3" currently):

Are you positive? The "female" has a slight purple hue on the lower half of it's body and doesn't have any red colouration on the fins, instead they're more bluer fins. The blue is not so full on either, the body is more pastel and not so bright...Also the behaviour of the "female" is nothing like that of the male...in that it is digging a pit etc in the sand...

I am no expert hence double checking but from what I gather I might have a female here???

I have found this page which makes me think I'm okay?: http://www.freshwate...-point-t113.htm

Thanks for your help

From the picture you just posted it looks more like a female, The other picture you posted i would of put money on it being 100% a Male. Maybe it was the angle of the picture taken.

I've taken a good examination of the male and female honduran's that i have and compared to yours, The new pics you've taken your female doesn't have a lump and the dorsal fin looks a lot blunter.

If it is a female, It's a really big female, Double the size of ours.

Put quality up that's another vid i took of the fish a while ago, Still same size i think ours arn't growing no more.

I recently found I got a major growth spurt from my cichlids after just 4 sub adults went into a 5fter, possibly the growth has slowed right down for yours as the tank is quite full...not that it matters. It could be their parents were small fully grown too? Who knows but you have a breeding pair which counts

It might also be that yours are all HRP and mine have some convict genes in there somewhere? I got both months apart from the same LFS...

I did try and get a good new pic of my HRP in the main tank to show just how big he is...he is the boss of the tank, currently sharing with a firemouth, port acara (both the same size as him) and a geophagus red head tapajos...I so want to see him getting it on :)

Glad you found the problem and got is sorted.

Haha mine is the boss of the tank also, If i go near the tanks when he's spawning he will fend me off flaring and trying to attack me, He sends ALL the rest of the fish down the other tank.

We have less fish in the tank than in the video, I took the video when we had 2 tanks down now all our fish are spread out.

I don't know the origin of the fish when we bought them, But i remember all the fish being quite small.

Here you go, a shot from today of my male, not as crisp as I'd liked but I should be working :)
