to start you need about 2 males per 6 females not the other way round.

then you should buy a trio of whatever colour guppies you want to breed.

I have some show class guppy fry if you want to buy some to start you off.

A show class trio [e.g like in my sig and solid colour guppies] cost about £50.00 each so I have some show class guppies at £0.50 each that you could breed with as they are high quality and sell much quicker & easier. Also, show class guppies tend to not eat their fry.
Also, I have some half black guppy fry that I could sell to you.

Regards,

John.

p.s whre abouts in the u.k are you?

Their called "Moscow blacks" and at auction then get around £10 a pair.

To breed true all you need to do is just wean off any odd coloured fry before the can breed.
With shop fish you never know what your getting so suggest to buy from breeders which will sell true pair's

Their is a national guppy show in Oct
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=297227&hl=

The auction will start from £3 a pair for show quality fish. Imported in from breeders all over the world.
We have seen prices got to over £100 a pair on occasion, but £5-15 is an average price for the average fish.

thanks for the help ive got some black fry so ill try line breeding that!
i hope it goes well lol....

P.S.Sorry i can't buy any more fish becuase of pick up and stuff.

Your best bet is a club sponsored auction like HelterSkelter has suggested. I have received most of my harder to find stock from club auctions. Pet shop fish are just that. They are fine at $1 to $2 in a pet shop but are not what you want for a serious breeding project. Sales over the internet mean not being able to evaluate what you are actually getting. It works fine for generic fish but is not the best approach for narrow specific line bred fish.

hi again peeps!
i might consider going to the show but i have some questions about it::

(1) how much is it to get in?
(2) can anyone go in the show? even if your not entering?
thanks,

Yes I think so, as it is a auction as well, I don't think there is an entry fee either. Helterskelter is the best person to ask

Were not sure on entrance fee's yet, it would be nice for some to sponsor it so we don't have too.

Any one can goto the show and view.
Members can only enter fish though and have to booked in, in advance.

Only member can though can bid in the auction.
Although their is a sales table for none members to buy fish.
