I just sold my first batch of guppy fry. I think I got a pretty good price for them to. I took in 8 females and 14 males, and got 18.00 in store credit! Not that much, but paid for a big bottle of stress coat, and a bottle of bettafix, with enough left over for me to get a fishie or two later on. Yay!

And best of all, my tanks are no longer loaded to the brim with fishies. It was starting to look like a LFS tank in there!

im goin to starte guppy breeding this summer. its good to get store credit for them. congrats on your first batch of guppys and the 18 bucks u got for them. im savein store credit for a bigger tank. right now iv jus got a 10g. :D

Wow! They paid a lot more than I would have thought possible. How much do they sell their guppies for?

Nice find, by the way.

thats not really that much. my lfs gives $1 a fry. so u could have 100 and make that much.

I've called all my LFS and they won't do an even trade...They will just take them and sell them for THEIR PROFIT!!! no way...

Hi cation :)

Congratulations!

Doesn't it make you feel good to know that they will soon be making other people happy? I always feel good when I bring my cory fry to my lfs. I have to admit, however, that it makes me feel a little sad too. :(

They're usually on sale for about $5 a pair. They go through fancies like crazy. The really cool part is that when I trade them, I don't have to pay sales tax on whatever I take in trade. An added perk, considering sales tax is nearly 10% here in WA....

Well, it's different everywhere. Some people on this board can't even give their guppies away to the LFS, so I'm pleased with what I got for them.

And you might want to check your maths....if your LFS gives $1 a fry, and I had 100, I would have $100 in trade, not $18.

really. so have 100 and make that much as in dollars, ah that means $100 or pound sor euros or whatever

and i dont know y ppl. wouldnt takee guppies in their stores, they sell really good, its so stupid of LFS that dont take in fish.

Yes and yes - both good and a bit sad. I will say, however, that my guppies were far more beautiful then 90% of the fancies they currently had in, and that made me feel goo. They may already be in their new home....probably being overfed in an uncycled tank, but that's another story all together....

I don't have any idea what currency you use, as you don't have your location posted under your name. I live in the US, and was working off of my currency. You said your LFS bought fry for $1 apiece, 100 fry (your example) x $1 = $100.

I'm with you on that. They sell like hotcakes out of my LFS, but maybe that isn't the case in some places. Or maybe they don't like homegrown, who knows. :dunno:

but some breaders are home based, so if they tell u that its BS. i sell some of mine to people at school, and i can get like $4 for just one, you should ask people with tanks to buy them, you always get alot more money that way too. lol

i tried to sell a batch of pure blooded midas at around 3 inches and they wanted to give me the equivalence to 10 cents a fish =-/. if i sold them fancy guppies id probably get a penny per fish

I don't understand why some of the lfs will not buy your fry, and at a good price too. :dunno:

OK, chain stores just won't because they have to order through their main offices, or whatever. So you can forget about them. But a good independent lfs, who you buy food and supplies from, (in other words, someone you have established a good relationship with) can and should buy them. It is all to their advantage, as long as you have a popular kind of fish.

Look, they are getting healthy fish which are raised in small tanks, in local water. They are not being overcrowded and shipped all over the world. They are going to be bagged and brought to them, probably within the hour. You can just about guarantee that they will not take any loss due to changing tanks.

You will not get rich from selling your fish, but even if you can get enough money from them to pay the cost of their food, IMHO, it would be worthwhile.
