My tap water is at about 15-20 degrees GH. My betta doesn't seem to mind it, but I have to change the filter media quite often, since it gets plugged up with calcium deposits. I've heard that peat moss can help soften the water and reduce the PH a little, at the expense of discolored water. Will the peat moss bother my betta? Are there any other ways to soften the water, other than dilution?

I have very hard water, and my ph is high, too. My bettas have acclimated to it, but I'm sure they'd be happier in softer water. I've heard of using peat moss, and it should be fine for your fish. Indian Almond leaves, I've heard, also soften water and lower ph some. They are really good for bettas anyway, so probably a good idea to get some IALs. Or betta spa (which is made from IALs).
