Soft Alkaline Water

I have soft alkaline water, I know that sounds impossible but believe it because is true. My tap water has water softener in it but its really basic. I have platys and it says in my book they like medium to medium-hard water and a ph of 7-7.4 (not sure what medium means?) My Ph 7.0 stuff by seachem doesn't work, i think its because its soft, How do i make my water harder without raising ph. I want the ideal water for them. I want them to thrive and breed and stuff. Do you have any advice? Thanks.

Platys are prolific breeders and will breed in any water really, yeh they do prefer harder water as do most live bearers but they will strive in any water conditions really.

I wouldn't go about changing water ph or hardness a steady ph is far better than varying one that you try and get right, it's all too easy for it to go wrong and you need to add the ph balancer every time you water change, IMO I would leave it exactly how it is.

Thank you, Yeah my fish really doesn't seem to like the new water but i change it so they can thrive because they don't breed in my regular water. I thought it was ph?
