I want to set up a tank of pure livebearers with no predators that are safe to breed together in harmony.

Which livebearers could you reccommend to breed well together in one tank.

I know of Guppies, swordtails and molies are there any others that are livebearers that would live happily with them?

Thanks

All livebearers are for the most part very peacefull fish. So Yes, they can be kept together. Just remember the more fish you have, the bigger tank you will need. And remeber most of all if you have LiveBearers they will have big numbers of fry. You need to know what your going to do with all these fry. And alot of times LFS will not take them :/ So just keep in mind you might wake up one morning and have a 100+ fry you need to find homes for :good: Im shure the other guys on here can give you some more thourough Advise :D

You're pretty much okay with all the livebearers, but like PoPoV said, you're going to have a lot of fry with all livebearers. They will probably all each other's fry, but I don't think they can keep up with a tank full of fry producing machines.

There are hundreds of livebearers.thay are not all peaceful. some livebearers will fight and even kill their own species, some will continuously chase and nip fins of other fish. There are loads of livebearers that can be kept together. you need to decide which livebearers that you want to keep and if they are available and then we can give you more information about them.

Thank you for pointing that out fish  Some species may very well aggressive. Your more common found species of live bearers are for the most part peacfull. I.E. Platies, mollies, guppies, swordtails, halfbeaks, These can all be kept together and will readilly breed. Ask the staff at the LFS befor you make your purchase about aggressivness and if they can be kept together. Gook Luck :good:

Mollies are brackish fish. They need marine salt in their water. Also, they get bigger and can pick on smaller fish.

Sailfin Mollies (Poecila latipinna) are brackish and need some salt to be healthy. Regular Mollies and lyretails (Poecilia sphenops) don't mind salt and can be kept in brackish water, but don't require it. They don't, however, like soft or acidic water - the case with most common livebearers.

Swordtails, guppies and platys can live very well together. Mollies can be a little picky at others, especially sailfin mollies, which get very large and are aggresive. If you want mollies, get balloon mollies. They're cute and aren't aggresive. Some people think they are a crime against nature, so if you're against inbred fish (they're bred so their bodies are short), I'd get a regular female molly. Males aren't very nice.

Edit: Oh yeah, about the salt... mollies do need salt to thrive. However, most livebearers are from brackish waters, so 1 tsp per gallon of salt would be fine. In fact, it also wards off diseases and such.

Some livebeares like salty condations, it's only coz fish farm's rear them in brackish water to reduce stress on the fish, then when the go strait to fresh water we get the problems

95% on the common wild livebearers are totaly freshwater
Mollies and guppies do goto brackish and marine waters in search for new freshwater, but it's not the norm.

liverbearers i recommond

platies and swordtails are pretty hardy too

they go great together and can inter breed

mollies can be little harder and need salt
guppies and fagile -- well i think -

what size tank u have ?

I have two at present a 80 litre and a 305 litre tanks.

The 80 litre at present has

2 sword...m/F
4 Platy....m
2 molly....m/f
5 silver tips...m
3 clown loach
2 catfish
2 garmin...m/f
2 siamese fighters m/f....(yes i know i know)

The 80 litre has been up and running now for 1 month....No fish lost.

I am thinking of introducing some RAMS. I know they are predators but a couple will do just to keep the 100's of fry that are on their way down a bit.
The fighter has not touched any fry , in fact its the other fish that attack it. It has the odd nip at a garmin but so far in a month have done no damage whatsoever and i am hoping they wil breed..

The 305 litre has not been set up yet and i am deciding whether to go marine with it or stay tropical?

mmmmmmmmm!!

You should stay tropical on the 305, because you're going to need a bigger tank for the clown loaches - They get 20 to 30 cm - and somewhere to put the bettas when they start conflicting with the livebearers.

I see your point and i will consider it . But if needs be i will cut down in fish in my tropical.

But as i said i will think on it.

Thankyou for your opinion it is much appreciated. :)
