Hi all- Well, it hasn't even been a year yet since my husband first brought home our Betta and we just losst him maybe to "old age" or a multitude of infections. We did everything we could to help him---hospital tank--antibiotics, etc., with the help of all you lovable people, I may add! But he just stopped eating and got grayer and grayer--He was a gorgious purple and red. We always said that when he was swimming in the tank, he looked like he had purple scarves attached to him--billowing out behind him.

I have surely been bitten by the "fish hobby bug."

I never knew one could get so attached to fish, but my little Betta buddy would brighten up my day when he'd swim over to me when I came near the tank. (I always said it was like having a puppy--that greets you when you come home!) And now, my little pal is gone. And I miss him so. We went through a lot with him--keeping him separate from the new mollies we brought home some months ago and finally uniting them all peacefully in the community tank!

This may sound silly, but I grew up with cats and dogs (and a bird at one time) and I really miss having one, but we are in an apt. and at a time in our lives where having a dog or cat wouldn't be feasible, much less affordable--our apt. complex adds on a monthly fee and a non-refundable deposit for these kinds of pets.

So, when I saw that we had such a personable Betta--whom we sometimes called Fishy, sometimes Betta, it filled up (a little bit) that ache inside to have a friendly pet.

I am lucky that we still have 2 dalmatian mollies and a very funny balloon mollie and about a dozen mollie fry which are growing fast in the tank, but those Bettas are special! We're definitely going to get another male soon.

So, my fish friends, thanks for listening as I grieve the loss of my little friend and also thanks again to all who reached out to help me through his illness with warm advice and support.

My prayers and blessing to you all.

So sorry for your loss Wendy

Just wanted to thank you so much for the kind words of support. They really meant a lot to me. We now have a new male betta residing with us--whom I call Blue or Blue Note (my husband and I are both musicians) and he's definitely helping to fill the space our last betta, Fishy, left in our hearts...

Fishingly yours,

Wendy :thanks: :fish:

I am sorry for your loss Wendy.

They bring joy to your life even if people only see them as 'a fish'.

Hi-

Wanted to get back to you--with hugs and kisses, too, -- to thank you for the support and condolences for the loss of my little buddy, Fishy! It definitely helped me to cope with the loss.

P.S. Are you from Northhampton, Massachusetts (where I almost moved to) or Northhampton,England?

Wow how did you manage that duplicate posting, Northampton, England, is where I live. May I add, it is very wet and miserable here at the moment. Regards.

I'm sorry. :( I know how it feels to lose a pet after you've been attached to it, I lost a parakeet one day... so sad. :-(

Hi-

I'm not quite sure how I did the multiple posting..I literally went on each email individually and hit reply... I don't know how they all came out togethr. I was trying to individualize the messages.

Sorry it's so wet and miserable there. Still warm, thankfully, here in New York. I love the U.K. Lived in London when I was a college student in 1975 for three months in a very hot summer and worked part-time at Healthrow for a branch of a family air freight forwarder. And have been back a few times. Unfortunately, didn't get a chance to travel outside London very much. Did take a train down to Hastings that summer to see your beaches. I grew up at the beach on li.

Hang in there. The rain will stop eventually.

Regards,
Wendy

:rip: little boy. Sounds like you loved him a lot, hope you find a new betta to care for. :)

Thanks for the kind words of support. Yes, I really did love him a lot! And we did get a new Betta on Tuesday night--beautiful turquoise--I call him Blue or Blue Note since my husband and I are musicians. I still miss the old Fishy, but it sure is nice having another betta around. Was a little worried at first because though he seemed happy enough--built bubble nest the first day!!--He wasn't eating anything until finally today (Sat.). I felt better also when I read on these forums that that isn't uncommon for a betta to not eat for a few days upon arrival at his new home. We just keep praying and taking even more focused care of him. (We had him in a 2 gallon fishbowl which we'd gotten to use as a hospital tank for the other betta--wanting to keep him separate from our mollie bunch in our 10 gallon tank--there are 3 adults and 12 growing fry--which might have been too overwhelming for our old guy--We only just released all of the fry into the community tank--but what a funny bunch! When they're eating and traveling as this little school on the surface of the water, for some reason they remind me of a water ballet troup!!! How silly, but fun!
