So My Discus Jouney Has Begun

plans to convert my 100g tank into a planted discus community have just been put firmly into motion.my golden nugget and vinny have both just been sold ( bye bye big fella) but on a plus side hes going to minxyfishy so i know hel be well looked after. so in 3 weeks time once ive got the rest of the finances sorted i will be adding another eheim external to beef up filtration , the tank will be drained scrubbed , sand replaced with planting substrate and gravel (maybe black depending on budget) planted with amazon swords giant vallis and some foreground plants which ive yet to decide on . the tank will then become home to 6 discus 25 either cardinal or rummy-nose tetras ( maybe 12 of each) nd possibly a pair of german blue rams .

WHAT you sold Viny!!!! I'm a bit shocked really. Hope you love discus they are pretty and a well planted discus tank is amazing. Personaly I think they are like Super models of the fish world, nice to look at but not too much when it comes to personality. The new stock does sound good.

yep i sold vinny i really didnt want to but a planted discus tank has always been my fish-keeping holy grail and unfortunately it meant he had to be re-homed. but there was no way he was going just anywhere .
now its just gonna drive me up the wall waiting for the cash to do it all lol patience never was my strong point

I'm thinking of going down the discus route once i get a new tank sorted, i will be having mine in my 4x2x2 like you, don't think i'll go down the hi tech route like just basic tank with a few plants in there. Looking forward to pics

im not going hi tech as such , i wont be using co2 or anything just the planting substrate so they are at least getting some nutrients . i will try to borrow a decent camera and do a journal as i set it all up .

noway man but then again minxs is getting them you no they will be in good hands now for the journey in the discus side mate ENJOY

yeah its all good that hes going to mags, if i couldnt of found him a really good home i would of kept him and gone without the discus, should of seen me pming her lol he likes this food etc etc . yep cant wait to get my teeth into the discus setup , looking forward to the challenge .

Hope he works out with Harry, if not i could try him with my 8" Male Bruno.... would hate to see him go to a LFS, only right to keep him on the forum

hm great i love that you take this challenge... which type of discus fish do you want to keep in your tank?

yes im really quite excited about it i have loved all the reading and learning i have had to do its really refreshed my enthusiasm for the hobby.

so far im thinking along the lines of

1 red turqoise
1 giant flora
1 marlboro red
1 ring leopard
1 spot faced leopard
1 pigeon snakeskin or maybe pigeon blood

i have had a look at red maop its very nice but i like the marlboro red more i think
