I'd go for oto, even small fish can regard shrimplets as food, though the impact may be negliable with pygmy cory's I wouldn't personally risk it. I also know bettas get mixed reports - some people say they are OK with shrimp, others how they eat them. Again I wouldn't risk it and would steer clear of bettas.

Then I'll forget the shrimp as I already have them in another tank. A Betta is on the cards for this small tank.
What else could I stick in there with a Betta?

If you really like shrimp I wouldn't totally rule them out, just be prepared to loose a few (if not all), though with plenty of cover (java moss for example) it could work. I was just warning you that theres a good chance the betta will snack on the shrimp, but the population may be able to sustain itself. It's hit and miss, if I were to attempt this I would let the shrimp build up a population then introduce the betta. Ofcourse this is with dwarf shrimp like red cherries, if you tried larger shrimp such as amano then there is a much better chance of coexistance.

Other suggestions for the betta could be the pygmy corys. I've got a soft spot for khuli loaches so they might work. If you're set on a betta I would ask in the Betta sub-forum, might be better replies there.

It will be fine in this section of the forum for now. I prefer using the specific species forums for journals.
What i'll do is give a couple of my Amanos a trail with the Betta to see how it will react. And then take it from there. Although this tank would be easy for them to get out I feel as the lid is not all the way across. I'll look into another species of fish, its probably Oto's or Pygmys.

Got myself a lovely male Betta. Used sponge and media out of my current 55 gal to cycle the new filter.

Made up with the little fella. Will probably add some Pygmys in the next few weeks.
