after massive deaths to about half my fish in 2 day and still potentially more, ive decided I wont be buying more fish for a long time. my question is, with the fish I have what size tank do they need. I have a 10g a 30g and a 75g. id like to go smaller for awhile.

I have
8 swordtails
7 danios
1 platy
5 guppies
4 cories
6 kuhlis
1 gourami
1 bn plec

i've always heard the rule of thumb, "one gallon for one inch of full grown fish". If you go by that standard you'd have to use the 75. I'd wait till someone more experienced answers but I wouldn't be comfortable keeping that many fish in a 30 gal.

well first try to figure out why the fish are dying.

you properly could get away with having all the fish in the 75 gallon, but the kuhlis i don't know much about, but the others would be alright..  you'll need to add them 2 weeks apart so you don't have any fluctuations in the tank.

they're dying because it took me too long to realize they were sick with ich and also fin rot. now, even as im treating the tanks I am still losing some. ITS MY FAULT THEY'RE SICK AND DYING. but with the fish that survive I want to combine them. the cories and guppies are in the 10g everyone else is in the 75g.

what product are you using if you don't mind me asking?  I too, am trying to rid my tank of ich

Im using ick clear tablets from jungle... because im out of the liquid form

i've been using rid ich plus but i still seem to have ich on one of my mollies after a week of treatment

What temperature is the tank?

it was at 74 when i realized they were dying. im raising it slowly. its at 78 now.

Can I ask which country your in? Its just that the US and UK have different measurements for gallons, and this slight difference can be quite big when it comes to actual tank volume/ room.

Tank size/ volume wise I always feel that the biggest you can go is best, so I would advise using the 75G as your main tank.
If the swordtails are all male along with the platy then they can be mixed, otherwise they will interbreed.
The guppies will be fine with the swordtails and platy as long as there are no females swordtails or the platy, since the male guppies can make real pests of themselves trying to mate with any females whether they are a female guppy or not.
Provided you don't add aquarium salts/ or tonics to increase the water hardness (even salts for medicating) to the tank then the BN plec, coryodras and khuli loaches will be fine with the other fish, but keep in mind most guppies, platies, and swordtails come from hard water, while BN's, corys, and khuli loaches come from soft water habits along with gouramis. Ideally some more corys will help your current 4 be less stressed and usually more active about the tank. But wait till your ich issues are sorted first.
The gourami may find the usually zippy guppies and danios a bit bewildering and off putting, is it a dwarf species or one of the larger species of gourami? Because gouramis are often more sedate and measured when feeding make sure the faster fish don't get all the food and the slower gourami misses out. The same problem can occur for the corydoras and khuli loaches that hang around the bottom of the tank. To counteract the greedy fast mouths you can do night feeds for the BN, corys and khuli loaches which actually suits their habits better.

Im in the U.S. the actual tank measurements are in my signature.
The swords, i have one male the rest female. Ive never added anything to either tank to change the hardness.
I had 6 cories but two got picked on to death by some tetras i had (rehomed them)so im down to 4 again.
the Gourami is an opaline

Can you be more specific, species wise, regarding the...

Platy (is it a variatus or maculatus?)
Corydoras
Gourami (just seen it is an Opaline)
Danios (just seen they are Pearl)

and the dimensions of the 10g, 30g, 75g please?

What happened to your syno (euptera?)?

platy is a twinbar.. dont know what that makes her.
cories are the three lined ones

Sydney died yesterday.... i think he had extreme fin rot stuff. his eyes were glassy, he was covered in almost a second skin that appeared to be peeling. I couldnt be the one to take him from the tank... my roommate did. I buried him.

Also the measurements are LWH
10g-- 20.3" x 10.5" x 12.6"

29g-- 30.3" x 12.5" x 18.8"

75g-- 48.5" x 18.5" x 21.2"

75g (~22C, 8-10x water turnover)...
Swordtails
Platy
Pearl Danios
BN Plec
Corydoras trilineatus
Black Kuhli Loaches (Pangio oblongata?)

29g (~24C, 4-6x water turnover)
Opaline Gourami

10g (~22C, 4-6x water turnover)
Guppies

I'd like to put the loaches with the Guppies to split the stock a little more, beacuse it will give the loaches a much easier time getting their share of food, but that might be pushing the stocking of a 10 (~45l) a little.
