and I set it up like this:

(this picture belongs to fatbob, I just love it so I am using it as reference)

hmm....
in a case like this, where the fish could potentially be spending time under the rocks and stuff, therefore obviously... well, crappin in there (LOL) how do you clean under the rocks when you're vacuuming? Do you have to move the stuff all around?

How do you smart normal tank type people do this sort of thing?

(Can you all hear my gears grinding from where you are at?)

Well... a UGF would be useless with sand, it would clog up faster than a toilet in a bar after beans and burritos night....

You'll just have to move the rocks, it shouldn't be too hard given the way the rocks are in just a pile of sorts.

By the way, that tank looks awesome!

Yea, not everytime though... Just every few water changes, remove the rocks and vacuum under the area. Simple really.

Yeah, plus I'd do a regular head count. Not that I'm saying you're going to kill them, of couse not, but if one did die under the rocks, you wouldn't want it rotting until the next water change....

Yeah ninja - I REALLY REALLY love this setup.
I've been eyeing up a 29G corner contraption for some time now.
I really wanna mimick this setup but I'm afraid to go full bore into a cycled, filtered tank with sand and the whole bit.

It's quite a big jump from my little betta tanks.

Although... if I were to get fish for a tank like that, they'd probably end up being girly bettas anyway

My suggestion for stocking that tank: 39 x 16 x 20

5 Flying Foxes
25 Rasboras
10 Emperor Tetra
10 Boehlke's Penguin Fish
3 Clown Loaches
4 Snakeskin Gouramis (2 pairs)
10 Corydoras
6 Butterfly Fish (3 pairs)

with sand tanks and decor if you get a big enough tubing then the suction will get the crud out of the deepest of places, just hold it a lil back so u can see wahts coming out from the rocks.

although my set up it's as holey as that there's a few places i can't get right to but if you leave the hose there for a few secons it soon starts sucking it up!!

webcat5, are you talking about picking one of the fish above???? Definitely can't get all that in a 29 gallon. Not even with a plunger.

I might be missing something here but where did you get those dimensions from.....

that works out to be about 50-55 gallons which still isn't big enough for all those fish yet alone big enough to keep clown loach.

also having that many butterfly fish in a small tank can cause problems if 1 out does the rest, the rasboras and tetras may also become lunch depending on the size bought.

I don't know about the 39 x 16 x 20. I didn't see anything mentioned but a 29 gallon and that is way too many fish for that. I come up with about 220 inches. Maybe your just kidding. Who knows

I'd be shocked as hell. :p

LOL

You know it's shocking.. though I must admire your choice of influence.

But c'mon.. you.. with a tank.. and a filter?!
You know you'd just want to divide it to house even MORE bettas! :p
