So I Need Opinions On Compatibility Factors With My Types Of Fish.

Hi again. So I just need some advice on some tank mates I have in my aquarium.
I initially wanted just tropical fish in my tank, but I now have 2 BABY Ranchus as well in my tank.
Now they are not going to be in there forever, they are actually a friend's fish that I am taking care of until she moves out and gets her own place.
What I was told by my LFS is what I need clarity on. My LFS said that they are cold water/pond fish, and heat causes them to grow.
They also said, they will grow only to accomodate the size of their tank they live in. Now, each of them are only about 2.5 inches long.
So yes, they are in my community tank and they have been in there for a few months now, and they have done absolutely wonderful with my tropical fish.
No problems, and no incompatibility issues. Which from what I have read on the net, is impossible.
So what I'm asking from all of this, is it possible? Will they (and my other guys be okay)?
Again, they are only temporary.

Having the ranchu in a tank which is around 22-25 degrees will seriously stunt them and shorten their life, in my opinion they should not be kept in with the tropicals.

Well... How big is your tank, and they don't grow to the size of the tank, they release hormones in the water which causes their outside to stop growing but there internal organs keep growing, and they die a slow, painful death.

Really? Learning curve for me there Does this apply to all fancy goldfish or just Ranchu? Do you mean sub-tropical temps of around 20 or can they thrive at 25?

I do truly believe they don't belong with tropicals simply because of the fact that their difference in water temperatures are quite great.
However, emotionally, they are quite peaceful fish, like the tropicals so that's how I feel they are compatible.
My tank is a 25 gal.

I have to disagree. If this is from experience please make it known.

I have kept goldfish in both and it is not 'double the waste'. It is a little more with warmer temps, but no more than the same bioload of tropical fish at the same temp (such as a cichlid tank).

They can easily eat enough to grow much better not barely keep weight. I don't know where the magic number of 75F came from. I have kept them at 82F and they grew like weeds and were healthy as they could be.

It should not be an issue at all to keep enough oxygen in the tank. With all the aeration options any tank today should well exceed any needed aeration.

Goldfish are from tropical areas. The following map shows where they are native to in blue and all the countries they have been introduced to and naturalized in (meaning they now have stable or growing populations in the wild in these nations). The native area includes Laos and Myanmar, very tropical. As you can see from the red they are naturalized in effectively every nation our tropical fish come from. This means that out in the real world right now our tropical fish species are swimming around with healthy goldfish populations (not gasping and wasting away from the temp). The information for this map was taken from fishbase.org (a site maintained and used by scientists, not hobbyists).

My sarassa goldfish bred in my tank when kept in tropical conditions (with discus and an amazonian catfish). This was two years ago. Only recently (past month or so) have my fancies bred at room temp in my tanks.

That's really interesting. Thanks for posting that. I suppose that makes sense in many ways. So from this, we know that they are found in tropical waters but are also thriving as a naturalized species in other parts of the world with a colder temperature. Does that mean they can adapt to any temperature within both those ranges or that they actually PREFER tropical temperatures?

in my honest opinion, i think they like higher temperatures, i have noticed them to be more active in higher temperatures, like 75

I have my goldies outside in three ponds. During the summer, the pond temp normally range from 65F to 85F. The ponds freeze in the winter. Come spring they are all happy and swimming. This year I had to bring the goldies inside... pond sprung a leak and with the low water level, I'm afraid they will freeze solid and die. Right now they are in a 55gallon awaiting their new winter home, a 75 gallon. I know it's not big enough for them to live in long term, but for the winter, it should be fine.
