Hey all; just a quick post as i'm about to go to work but i won a fish tank and set up from a local pet shop open day. I'm thinking about putting a Betta in it in a few months time (i just moved house so we are a bit preoccupied)

If its ok i'll pop photos of every thing we got here; I don't want to rush into anything. I owned bettas as a teen so its not totally uncharted territory but its been a while

Any thoughts would be great

That would be an excellent home for a betta! Of course the cycle is relatively useless, but everything else should work well. You may want to upgrade food, but otherwise, it's all fine. When you get the tank set up, before there are any fish in there, have the filter run for a bit to see what the suction is like into the filter and how heavy the flow is from the outtake. You may need to baffle the filter or place a bit of mesh around the intake.

Welcome btw and check the nano fish section to know what fish you can put in a tank like that.

If you're not serious about fishkeeping and you want a low maintenance set up a betta would be perfect, a school of dwarf coyrdoras couldn't hurt either.

If I can throw something in here, I always get filtration for double the size of the tank I am putting it in. That's just a personal thing but I don't trust a lot of what packaging says and there is always a risk with me that I might overstock the tank. I agree the cycle stuff is useless. But with that bulb you should be able to put some low maintenance plants in there. Anubais, amazon swords, java moss and java fern. You should have a nice tank with that!
