i read on a snapple cap that if left in the dark, a goldfish will eventually turn white.

haha i thought it was really interesting.. does anyone know why?!

I know this to be true.
I used to keep a couple of fairground goldfish in a tank when I was a kid, the lightbulb failed and didn't get around to replacing it for months.
When I did replace it, both fish had become silvery-white.

Hugely simplified, pigmentation is a side effect of vitamin production in the skin stimulated by light.

This is is also the reason why humans tan.

That is pretty cool! Does it work on any other fish?
