Snails

So, I have had a snail issue (its not out of control, but I am uncomfortable with it) in my 40g tank, ever since I went on vacation. I think my sister slightly overfed cause the two that were in there to multiply. So I have about 20 or so in my tank. I have been feeding once a day every other day for about 3 weeks and crushing them when I see them. But I cannot seem to dent this population. I cannot afford assassin snails right now, and I don't want to use chemicals. I tried the lettuce method. And I am not buying clown loaches. I thought about other loaches simply because they are neat little fish, but I already have a shoal of cories on the bottom and I don't want territory issues. So here is my questions.

How long can the fish go without food?

Will crushed snails be adequate snacks if I go to feeding them every 3rd day with crushed snails in between feedings?

1) Fish can easily last over a week without feeding
2) Yes, the fish will love the crushed snails. Every 3rd day would be fine.

I've had a snail in my tank for over a week now but I've left it as I read the odd one isn't so bad. I got some new plants recently so I'm guessing that's where it's come from. I've just spotted another really tiny one so I'm gonna have to get squishing ... my guppies will love me lol

I saw one of my platy fry swimming arounnd with a big ol crushed snail in its mouth. It was the cutest thing!
