Just back from holidays...

Snails everywhere! Where did they come from? How do I get rid of them? Are they linked to the 'jelly pods' I also seem to have?

have you bought any live plants before you went away?

they are usually hiding on them.

putting a jar with a piece of lettuce in over night to catch them works

if you have brackish water, buy a puffer

if freshwater, buy some clown loaches

they will eat the snails and control the populations

and also try not to overfeed, as their population will increase if there are lot of food for them to grow

Yes, new plants.
Thanks for the jar and lettuce tip.

Clown loach. OK with Guppies / tetras etc? (Also got a Coolieloach).

It's a really, really bad idea to add fish just to eat snails. Also, clown loach are just about the worst thing you could recommed as they can grow to over a foot long, and need to be kept in shoals of 6+.

The best method of snail control is a comination of trapping (with lettuce or cucumber; carrot is supposed to be good, but my snails won't touch it) and reducing feeding.

clown loach will be okay with guppies and tetras...DEFF not puffers though, as they may harrass your fishes hard. and try not to overfeed, mate

OK; trap and diets!

Any ideas on dealing with the 'jelly pods'?

Yes, I used a block. Why?

If its just that kind of snail you dont want you could get assasin snails to kill them,
thay do breed but not as fast as pest snails.

There's nothing wrong with snails, the fact that you used a block didn't help, the constant supply of food will be the cause of population explosion, now you're back to normal feeding the numbers should fall.

OR extreme but 100% secure way would be ....take everything out, boil the gravels..and clean the tank...then put everything back in,..that will kill all...but not the best way, but one way to do it..like i said..." extreme "

Snails appearing in my tank too and I found their eggs under the filter today :grr:

The vegetable trap should work. I left a carrot in for my catfish and found the snail on it a few days after. Left it inside though since it seemed so harmless.

So then...Trapping.

How do you get lettuce / cucumber / carrot to stay inside a sunken jar?
