Hi everyone, I appear to be over run with snails in my tank, or rather my fish are!! Is there anything I can do or put in my tank to kill them off without affecting my fish? Many thanks

normally snails manage to stay alive normally because of over feeding, so if you minimize the food given the snails population will drop but make sure you do this over long period of time. this will drop the amount of snails you have in your tank then you can just pick them out now and then. e.g in my tank i had hundreds now i have anout 50 and pick out the big ones now and then.

easyier way is using chemicals which contain some metals such as copper which will destroy the shells of snails leaving the snail to die or be eaten. however don't over use the product.

Hey all,
Or you could donate them to me! Ive got brackish puffers and they love chomping on snails! If you can fish them out, you could either post them to me (at my cost), or if you live anywhere near Glos so I can pick them up lol! Ive tried breeding them in my freshwater tank but must be the only person on the planet who cant!

I have thousands of the pesky things! I added three Botia Dario's and within 2 days the tank is almost clear of them - the dario's must have a real belly ache though!

Cheers, appreciate the replies - I'd like to know where the damned things came from, probably an infested plant me thinks, will be more careful in future - they look horrible sliding all over my tank!!!!

Welcome to the forum. The snails were probably hitchhikers on a plant. Often plants come in with snail eggs on them. They look like a mass of clear jelly with some white dots in it.
